Bernadette Morris was born in Orleans, France. Bernadette painted watercolor as a young adult but put that hobby aside as she moved to the United States where she started a family and pursued a career in education. Upon retirement, Bernadette took up her long lost hobby and enrolled in courses in watercolor and acrylic. Over the years, acrylic has become her main painting medium. Her signature work reflects her French heritage as she specializes in the landscapes of France and most especially of Provence. She is attracted by vibrant, bright and bold colors which are evidenced in her landscapes and still life paintings.
Born in France, my passion for art started at an early age. I loved drawing and I was always experimenting with different media, for example creating little animals with a jigsaw in my father's garage or encasing objects in plastic resin.
While raising my family, I channeled by artistic inclinations into engaging my children in art and crafts, encouraging them to draw, teaching them to create little fruits and vegetables in bread dough, painting T-shirts, organizing craft birthday parties, etc....
After my children grew up, I revisited my lifelong passion and began to fully engage in artistic pursuits! Without formal training, I honed my skills through numerous drawing and painting classes first at an art center in Australia where we lived and then at the Sertoma Arts Center in Raleigh. I also take online classes.
Eager to explore every facet of the fine arts, I dabbled in various mediums including oil, watercolor, colored pencils, pastels, acrylics, and charcoal.
It is however after meeting my friend Bernadette and seeing her brightly colored canvases, that I decided to spend more time painting in acrylics.
I have lived in a few countries around the world - France, England, Germany, Belgium, Australia and finally America – and visited quite a few others, giving me a broad range of interests and inspiration to draw upon. Specifically, I love to paint nature scenery. Also, fascinated by people’s faces and the character they reflect, I draw portraits.
