When I was in my early twenties I went to a psychic. I was expecting the stereotype Gypsy with a crystal ball on a black draped table in a dark room. She was about as far from that as you can get she was a grandmotherly woman, in a print dress sitting in a bright cheerful room. The table was draped but in earthy green. Everything she told me about my life up to that point has been right on without exception. The future predictions were all good but I thought most unlikely. Over the years each of her predictions has come to pass except one. Can’t really call it wrong because it is not suppose to happen until I get old. That prediction was that I would be a famous painter in my later years. I was in my sixties before starting to paint but once I did I found my passion. I even love the smell of the oil paint and the way my brush glides across the canvas. I love exploring different subject matter and will paint several canvases dedicated to each subject. Most anything will start my imagination going and the next thing I know I have embarked in a whole new direction. I have done series of blowing curtains, ocean scenes, penguins, fish, birds, landscapes, exotic animals and people. I have even done a few flights of fantasy with dancing trees and bubbles dripping. I have done the ordinary with bits of fantasy hidden within the painting. Finding something to paint has never been a problem for me, the only problem I have is deciding which of the many ideas I have floating around in my head, to do next. Each painting brings me joy and sets my imagination flying.
Emotion is what starts my paintings and what I hope to bring to the viewer. Many have hidden objects and several just tickle my funny bone and I hope yours as well.
My latest series is called "Singular Nature" unlocking the complexity of deceptively simple subjects. I love focusing in on a single subject and showing it's beauty.
