About The Artist
Barbara was born in North Carolina and now divides her time between Wake Forest and Naples, Florida. She received her PH.D in education and followed a career in teaching and administration, retiring in 1999.
Over the past few years she has been focusing more intently on her artwork, taking workshops from a wide variety of well known artists in Florida and North Carolina such as Robert Burridge and Bob Rankin. Her main artistic medium is acrylic and her mixed media pieces show her beautiful creative style.
Her artwork has been exhibited at venues such as BIG Arts on Sanibel Island, The Center for the Arts in Bonita Springs and The Von Liebig Art Center in Naples.
We are excited about her new show and hope you will come by to experience her unique style.
"The tapestry of life's story is woven with the threads of life's ties ever joining and breaking."
This quote from Rabindranath Tagone describes my journey as an artist. Each painting is an expression of my exploration, experimentation and learning about my life's story. As I paint, I tie and re-tie with the past threads of my life, but I am also defining a vision for my future life. Welcome to my journey!

Alma Burke, Acrylic Painter
About the Artist
A Franklinton, North Carolina based artist, Alma Burke has been painting professionally since about 10 years ago. With eight grown children and time to spare, Alma decided to revisit her love of art. She began teaching herself to paint and attended several workshops and classes. Over time, Alma has been successful in both and oil painting. Her work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina including shows at Meredith College and the Wake County Public Library. Alma's paintings are also on permanent display at the Coffee Hound Bookshop in Louisburg, NC. She has won numerous awards including "Best in Show" at the Kerr Lake Art Show and most recently several first place awards at North Carolina Senior Games. Alma finds great enjoyment in sharing her talent through teaching. She currently holds classes in Wake, Franklin and Granville Counties. When she is not painting, Alma enjoys reading, gardening, gourd crafting and participating in community activities.
