Theo Farantatos, Pyrography
Imagine art is a train, making stops along it's way. Artists get on and off at different stops, staying a while at each before moving on. My trek started as a kid carving bars of soap, moving on to wood carving by hand, next small woodworking projects. While on Cape Cod I was introduced to scrimshaw (the art of N.E. whalers out of New Bedford, MA ) a true American artform. I've been a scrimshander for over 40 years. Next stop lapidary, caboshons and faceting. Next wood turning, bowls etc. My love of wood and scrimshaw brought me to my next stop, Pyrography, "writing with fire" or wood burning. I've been working for a year in preparation for this show. I finish the pieces with hand made cherry frames. Next I'll be returning to making my Greek cook book with DVD's with my wife Nancy. She also rides her own art train.
